George Russell joins Frank Russell Company, his grandfather’s retail brokerage firm in Tacoma, Washington.

1960s

George Russell begins by helping pension funds develop a research-based process for selecting investment managers.  An investment consulting model is born.

1970s

George Russell creates a stir when he urges institutional investors to increase their exposure to non-U.S. investment markets.

1980s

Frank Russell Company creates stock indices such as the Russell 2000 and Russell 1000 to help investors and portfolio managers evaluate investment performance.

1990s

Russell’s global investment management business surpasses $100 billion in assets under management.

1998

The Russell Family Foundation begins organizing the family’s philanthropic programs.

1999

Russell family sells Frank Russell Company to Northwestern Mutual.

2000

Threshold completes its LEEDS-certified green building as family office headquarters in Gig Harbor, Washington.

2004

 Threshold Group evolves into a multi-family office by introducing investment advisory and family office services for additional client-families.

New office opens in Portland, Oregon.

2005-10

Threshold earns consistent ranking as “Best Company to Work For” as listed by Washington CEO and Seattle Business magazines. Threshold earned #1 ranking in 2009; #2 in 2010.

2006

New office opens in New York City.

2008

Threshold introduces the concept of “client communities of interest” with the Community of Mission-Related Investing.

2009

Threshold opens a full-service office in Philadelphia after a combined acquisition of Ashbridge Investment Management and Dan Geary’s investment advisory business. The New York office is consolidated to Philadelphia as part of this move.

2010

Threshold surpasses $2.5 billion in assets under advisement and employs 45 people in three offices nationally.

2011

Threshold introduces its Parenting Community for clients.

Threshold’s Philadelphia team moves to a new office at Two Liberty.
