Ed has more than 25 years of experience helping families of significant means manage their wealth. He joined Threshold Group in 2001 as President to create and deliver their integrated wealth management service offering. Ed's entire 25 years of wealth management expertise has been in service to families of significant means.
Prior to joining Threshold Group in February 2001, Ed was a partner in Arthur Andersen's Family Wealth Planning practice and headed their North and South Carolina Core Tax Services group of some 65 professionals. His estate and income tax planning background, family business consulting and registered investment advisory experience was brought to bear for clients facing the complex issues of family-owned and operated enterprises. He co-authored and taught numerous courses to his Andersen colleagues, including their Intermediate and Advanced Family Wealth Planning tracks. He was Andersen's liaison to the North Carolina Family Business Forum, playing a key role in its creation and in building its constituency.
Ed is a former member of the Family Office Exchange Advisory Board and an active member of the Institute for Private Investors and the Family Wealth Alliance - all organizations that represent private families and/or the family office industry. He also serves on the Alumni Association board of his alma mater, Valparaiso University.
Ed is a Certified Public Accountant and Personal Financial Specialist in the states of Washington and North Carolina and is a member of the national and Washington CPA societies. He is a registered investment advisor in Washington. He and his wife Paula (also a Valparaiso graduate) live in Gig Harbor, Washington with their three children.
Ronald G. Albahary, CFA
Chief Investment Officer
As Chief Investment Officer (CIO), Ron Albahary leads Threshold’s investment management and research services and manages the firm’s team of investment professionals. He is responsible for strategic decision-making and works closely with Threshold’s clients and their investment advisors to deliver risk-sensitive, goals-based investment solutions. His work encompasses investment strategy and process, risk management, asset allocation, manager selection, portfolio construction and macroeconomic research. Ron also provides frequent insight and perspective to help families and family foundations understand their investments in the context of current market conditions.
Ron, who is based in the firm’s Philadelphia office, also helps guide overall strategic direction at Threshold by serving on the Executive Committee. He is a featured speaker at many industry events and serves as a regular source and commentator for financial news media.
Ron has more than 22 years of investment experience, having overseen in excess of $200 billion during that span, with an emphasis on the customized needs of high-net worth private investors, families and family foundations. He has served in a number of investment leadership positions, most recently as CIO at Convergent Wealth Advisors. At Convergent, he headed up the research team and was responsible for advising on approximately $15 billion in assets. Previously, he was the Head of Investment Solutions at Schroder Investment Management; helped oversee more than $60 billion in assets as Managing Director of SEI’s Global Private Client Portfolio Management; and, served as the CIO of Merrill Lynch Retirement Group, advising on more than $150 billion in assets. He also spent several years as a portfolio manager at Northern Trust and Merrill Lynch Asset Management where he focused on U.S. large cap equities and balanced portfolios for endowments, foundations and individual investors.
Ron earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He is a CFA charterholder and is a member of the Chartered Financial Analyst Society of Philadelphia. Ron also holds the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Series 7, 63, and 65 licenses.
Philip T. Platt
Managing Director, Operations
Phil Platt joined Threshold in 2009 as Director of Investment Operations. In 2011, Phil was promoted to Managing Director of Operations and oversees all operational aspects of Threshold's investment advisory and family office services, as well as the finance, accounting, regulatory complilance, and IT functions.
Phil joined Threshold in May 2009 after serving for five years as COO of a Registered Investment Advisor in Bellevue, Washington with 19 employees and $350 million in assets under management. Prior to that, he spent six years with Microsoft in marketing strategy and business management roles. He has also worked in the corporate strategy group with Sprint Corporation and with a single family office as VP of Operations, where he managed several operating companies involved in real estate development and oil field services.
Phil was raised in Oklahoma City. He earned a B.S. in petroleum engineering from the Colorado School of Mines and an MBA from Cornell University.
Kristen Power Bauer
Managing Director
Kristen has served as client advisor and relationship manager to many of Threshold’s clients for more than decade. She helps lead the firm’s client service capabilities and coordinates relationship teams in the areas of investment advisory services, accounting and tax management, financial education, estate planning, alternative investments, human resource consulting, and the acquisition and disposition of real property and hard assets.
Prior to joining Threshold Group, Kristen was Director of Finance for Managed Care at Medalia HealthCare in Seattle, Washington. In the earlier 1990s, she was a manager for Arthur Andersen LLP in the Audit and Business Assurance division. Kristen is a Certified Public Accountant in Oregon and Washington.
She holds a BA in Business and Accounting from University of Washington.
Dan Geary, JD
Managing Director
Dan draws on extensive experience within the financial planning and wealth management industry to help lead Threshold's client service capabilities. Based in Philadelphia, he is known for building long–lasting, comprehensive client relationships with an emphasis on integration of specialized wealth services.
Dan worked previously with Convergent Wealth Advisors and was principal of Copper Beech Advisors LLC. He also was a senior vice president in the Family Wealth Division of U.S. Trust, advising families with substantial wealth and coordinating financial services including estate planning, asset allocation, investment management, financial planning, banking, philanthropic services and family governance. Before working at U.S. Trust, Dan was director of client services and executive vice president at Pitcairn Trust Company. He earned a BA from Siena College; JD from Albany Law School. He is a member of the New York State Bar and has held the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority(FINRA) Series 7, 63 and 65 licenses.
In his community, Dan serves on the investment committee for the Chester County Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
Tara A. Duffy
Managing Director, Investment Advisory Services
Tara Duffy, a senior investment professional with more than 20 years of experience in the wealth industry, is responsible for recommending, implementing and monitoring investment strategy for Threshold’s client families. Her work includes identifying investment philosophy, policy and asset allocation in close alignment with the goals and aspirations of individual family members and each family as a whole. She also works closely with Threshold’s relationship managers to integrate each client’s portfolio with other aspects of a family’s overall wealth management program.
Prior to joining Threshold’s Philadelphia office, Tara was Managing Director at Shelterwood Financial Services, a multi-family office, and at Global Hedge Strategies LLC. She has extensive experience working with alternative investments, having managed custom hedge and private equity strategies along traditional portfolios. Earlier in her career, she served as Chief Investment Officer for a boutique family wealth services firm in Manhattan, and as a Portfolio Manager at both Bank of New York and L.F. Rothschild Asset Management.
Tara earned her bachelor’s degree at Hood College and completed post-graduate work at American University.
Chris Phillips
Managing Director, Marketing and Communications
Chris is responsible for Threshold’s integrated marketing and communications, and works as part of the organization’s leadership team to develop and maintain successful relationships with prospects, clients and industry organizations. He joined Threshold in April 2006.
Prior to joining Threshold, Chris was Director of Public Relations at Russell Investments, a global investment services firm headquartered in Tacoma, Washington. In his 11 years at Russell, he developed and managed the company’s corporate communications, media relations and internal communication programs. He also helped lead the company’s marketing and brand development initiatives through 2005. Prior to working at Russell, Chris was communication manager at the Port of Tacoma, co-owner of a marketing services company and spent 10 years as an editor and journalist in the Pacific Northwest.
Chris is an advisory board member for the Gig Harbor YMCA and the Gig Harbor Historical Waterfront Association. Chris has earned a Series 7 and 62 license for investment securities and is accredited (APR) with the Public Relations Society of America. He earned a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Oregon and completed his undergraduate work at Hobart College in New York.
Chris Cutrona
Talent Director
Chris Cutrona is responsible for attracting and retaining talented associates to work at Threshold Group. She oversees human resources, including benefits and payroll administration, and manages many of Threshold’s office administrative functions to ensure strong organizational infrastructure and smooth operations. Chris joined the organization in July 2001.
Prior to joining Threshold, Chris was an administrative manager at Frank Russell Company, now Russell Investments, a global investment services firm headquartered in Tacoma, Washington. At Russell, she served as personal assistant to Jane T. Russell and managed George Russell’s administrative staff for nearly four years. Her experience includes more than 20 years of private and public office administration, and specialized expertise in office organization, workflow planning and working with clients.
Chris earned professional accreditation as Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) in June 2006. She holds certifications from Capital Business College.
Brian J. Hughes
Consultant to Threshold Group
Brian works with Threshold Group’s Leadership Team as a consultant focusing on business development and key business alliances. He recently transitioned to an independent consulting role after serving several years as Threshold’s Managing Director of Strategic Relationships. In his previous role, Brian was responsible for building and cultivating family and private foundation relationships that fit the personalized client service model at Threshold.
With extensive knowledge of wealth management and the family office space, Brian has been a speaker at many programs around the country, including the Family Office Forum, the Family Wealth Alliance, the Family Firm Institute, Family Office Symposium, AALU Annual Program, Schwab IMPACT, CFA Society of Philadelphia and the Pilot Family Office Summit. Prior to joining Threshold Group in 2008, Brian was managing director for Pitcairn Financial Group, where he led the family office’s business development efforts on a global basis. He has more than 27 years of experience in the financial services industry, including 15 years with Lincoln Financial Advisors. Previously, he served as regional CEO for Lincoln and Sagemark Consulting, a fee-based financial planning firm in St. Louis.
Brian earned a BA in Economics and Marketing from University of Tampa and completed the Private Wealth Management Program at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and a Chartered Life Underwriter from the American College. Brian and his wife Carey have two young children, Hunter and Gabriella, and they currently reside in a northwestern suburb of Philadelphia, PA.
