Stewardship in Action

Wealth managers doing our part in the community. And then some.

It’s in our DNA. Our commitments to community service and to making a difference in our world are as deep as the legacy that started it all. Our founders George and Jane Russell understood the blessings that had been bestowed upon them and worked tirelessly to give back time, money, and muscle to the communities, the foundations, and the people who were important to them. And they encouraged others to give back as well by offering time, talent, or whatever they had to share.

Threshold Group Volunteer Days

Staff Volunteer Days are designed to get us out of the office and into the communities where we live. We respond to pressing needs from organizations that matter most to the people who work at Threshold Group. The mix of staff volunteer activities can range from building Thanksgiving Day baskets and buying and wrapping holiday gifts, to organizing infant supplies and assembling donated bicycles for families in need. From 2013 to 2014, Threshold Group averaged 100 volunteer hours per employee.

Threshold Group Community Service Committee

Our Community Service Committee brings volunteer financial literacy training to young people in our community. We partner with community organizations such as Financial Beginnings and apply lifelong learning, leadership, mentorship, and team-building skills to empower young people with financial skills that will benefit them for the rest of their lives.

Based in Portland, Oregon, and expanding in Seattle, Financial Beginnings teaches youth and adults to take control of their financial future. Educational programs incorporate all aspects of personal finance to give individuals the foundation they need to make informed financial decisions. Threshold Group supplied the first wave of volunteers for the Seattle expansion.

Our Philadelphia office supports Community Partnership School by bringing interactive lesson plans into the classrooms. Philly associates teach students about building business plans, minding budgets, and other skills through activities that draw from aspects of the popular TV show Shark Tank.

A rich heritage of giving has inspired the vision we hold today―to explore innovative solutions that help our clients and communities thrive.

A Building Ahead of Its Time

When Threshold Group was just starting out as a family wealth management company, its headquarters resided in a building shared with The Russell Family Foundation in the idyllic Puget Sound community of Gig Harbor, Washington. The building constructed for the two budding enterprises was ahead of its time for its incorporation of healthy work spaces, energy efficiency, sustainable building materials, and for its effort to protect natural resources.

In a way, it was a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) building before LEED was even established. In 2003, after the United States Green Building Council did establish LEED, the Threshold Group office building became one of only 39 in the country to earn certification.

The building, fortified with wind-fallen timbers from Oregon, sits so naturally into the environment off Harborview Drive that it’s easy to miss. But what can’t be missed is the statement the structure makes to Threshold Group’s commitment to community vibrancy and sustainability.

The Russell Family Foundation

Founded by Jane and George Russell, The Russell Family Foundation (TRFF) provides a way for their extended family to make a quiet, positive impact in the community. The Russell Family Foundation is a thought leader in community investment and values, integrity, mutual trust, constructive communication, life-long learning, and courage. TRFF seeks to demonstrate these values in all of their activities. Threshold Group serves as the foundation’s primary investment advisor.
