The Unstoppable Calling to Do Good
Threshold Group delighted in hosting the first of a series of conversations with Paul Shoemaker from his new book Can't Not Do: The Compelling Social Drive that Changes Our World. Paul shared about how to bridge the gap between "wanting to do" and "doing"- to access the drive of an effective change agent, breaking through self-imposed barriers and facilitated the evening discussions by our featured speakers. After hearing stories from Paul and the courageous innovators who founded both non-profit and for-profit organizations committed to driving solutions for societal challenges guests were invited into small group discussions to share their inspiring stories and vision of change and action.
Featured Local Innovators Included: Dawn Trudeau, Co-Owner of The Seattle Storm and lifelong fan of women's professional sports, shared her story of learning of plans to relocate The Seattle Storm that motivated her and three others to band together to buy the team and keep them in Seattle. Robb Monkman, Co-Founder of React Mobile, explained that after being the victim of an armed robbery while in college, he developed the React Mobile app as a way to discreetly send out a call for help and has grown his offering with help from Kickstarter. And Katlin Jackson, Founder of Haiti Babi shared how a trip to Haiti with her mom inspired her to start Haiti Babi, a non-profit organization that provides jobs to moms in Haiti so they can earn a sustainable living wage, provide for their children, and keep their families together.
